Prior to the conflicts, Kandahar had one of five provincial museums. Artifacts from the region housed in the museum included items from King Habibullah’s reign and coffins containing two funerary urns with gold leaves in the Greek style. The uprising in the provinces forced the Soviet regime to transfer some of the objects to Kabul. After taking the inventory in Kabul and rebuilding a museum in Kandahar the artifacts will be installed in the new museum.
