Prior to the conflicts Nangarhar had one of five provincial museums. Nangarhar Museum sent its artifacts from Hadda and other sites to Kabul during the Soviet regime for safekeeping. Unfortunately the bombing in Kabul destroyed about 80% of the collection. Once the inventory is taken of the artifacts stored in Kabul and the museum is rebuilt it will reopen.
