Fine Arts Dept 1 (Linda Mazur)
The original Fine Arts Department was opened in 1985 under Soviet patronage, however nothing is now left from this time. The Taliban banned music and the instruments were destroyed. Painting classes were also stopped because of rocket attacks, Taliban restrictions and lack of supplies. Donations of instruments by British people through Susan Peterson and money collected by Dr John Baily have restarted the Music Department. Materials have also been donated to restart painting classes and the Goethe-Institut has brought in an artist to work with professors and students. A ceramic design course has been written but there are no qualified teachers at present.
