  Established in 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims, this private, non-denominational agency is one of the social development arms of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of institutions working to improve living conditions and opportunities in specific regions of the developing world.
