Bamiyan landscape
Bamyan Province is located in the mountainous central region of Afghanistan with a population of 438,250 and an area of about 6,757 square miles. Bamyan was the epicentre of trade routes between the Roman Empire, Han dynasty China and India, and travelling missionaries, traders, artists and warriors from many lands enriched the culture of the region. Famous for its 300 feet high cliffs housing Buddhist sculptures and paintings, Bamyan today is in need of massive rebuilding in order to entice tourists back to the province.
