Stavanger Concert Hall was completed in 1982 and holds a central place in the cultural life of the city of Stavanger. It presents performances from the region of Stavanger and Rogaland County as well as by internationally-acclaimed artists. The concert hall seeks the widest possible performance profile and thus, although concert presentation is its main activity, it also serves a number of other purposes. In addition to a wide range of concerts, Stavanger Concert Hall hosts gala performances, shows and musicals as well as classical ballet and modern dance. The foyer is often used for concerts, receptions and conferences.
Stavanger Concert Hall is the home of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. Air-conditioned and heated, available for hire.
NB - In 2011 the city of Stavanger will be enriched with a new concert hall. This will contain two auditoria, one mainly for the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and one multi-purpose hall for all types of music performance. Construction will start in 2008, the culmination of a long process which has included, in 2003, an international architect competition, the political process of financing the over 1 billion NOK required, and the detailed planning of all the facilities both inside and out. The Oslo-based company Medplan AS Arkitekter won the competition and is now working intensively on this vast project.
