The idea of reviving an abandoned industrial building on the outskirts of Nova Gorica and Solkan as a cultural centre was initiated in 1996 by the youth of the municipality. In 1998 Nova Gorica City Council appointed Zavod Masovna (founded by four youth organisations) to build the new centre, manage it and conceive its cultural programme. The first of its spaces were opened to visitors in 2002.
The aim of Mostovna Cultural Centre is to offer facilities for the development of modern urban culture, freetime activities, non-formal education and revitalisation of the city life. Mostovna also functions as a regional multimedia centre and is part of the m3c Multimedia Centres Network of Slovenia.
As well as theatre and film shows, literary events, workshops and exhibitions in TIR - Mostovna Gallery, it presents concerts, DJ evenings and occasional festivals, including the GO Filmfest. Each Friday night Radio Robin broadcasts a music programme from the Centre.
