Media
Since its inception the Vietnamese mass media has functioned as an important tool for government information and propaganda. Today, though increasingly driven by market forces and reflecting contemporary entertainment values, Vietnamese newspapers, radio and television are still exhorted 'to dwell on the fundamental content of Marxism-Leninism and Hồ Chí Minh Thought, reaffirm the correct leadership of the Party and Uncle Hồ, and support the policy of national unity and socio-economic reform'. (Nguyễn Khoa Điềm, Politburo member and Chairperson of the Communist Party's National Committee for Ideology and Culture, March 2004).
