Established in 1993, the Institute of Religious Studies conducts research on theoretical religious issues and contemporary religions and undertakes historical research on the formation and development of religions in Việt Nam with a view to highlighting the history of national ideologies and cultural identities. It also trains researchers in religious studies at postgraduate level, co-operates with other domestic and foreign organisations on methods of conducting research on religions and compiles and publishes a variety of books on religious studies.
