Established in 1973, the Institute of South East Asian Studies conducts research on South East Asian countries in terms of their histories, cultures and contemporary issues, with a view to promoting social sciences and humanities research on South East Asia in Việt Nam, providing policy-makers with scientific foundations for their activities, and developing teaching materials for South East Asian courses at high schools and universities. Research undertaken by the Institute covers many disciplines, including archaeology, ethnology, geography, history, culture, politics and economics. The Institute publishes a variety of books and also issues the bimonthly Nghiên cứu Đông Nam Á (South East Asian Studies) Review:
