AMICThe Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC) is the premier communication centre for information, research and promotion of mass communication in the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 1971 with the support of the Government of Singapore and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, it aims to spearhead the development of media and communication expertise in the Asia-Pacific with a view to fostering socio-economic progress in the region. AMIC is actively engaged in communication documentation, research, training, publishing and media development. AMIC’s Asian Communication Resource Centre contains one of Asia's largest collections of documents and audio-visual materials on communication in the region, including more than 65,000 records, books, periodicals and conference papers and an audio-visual collection comprising slides, films, video and audio tapes. A significant resource is the library's collection of unpublished materials gathered over a period of more than 27 years, making it one of the most extensive collections of fugitive materials. The Centre also houses the Japan Prize Collection of educational broadcasting material. AMIC’s Publishing Programme identifies and fulfils information and publication needs of AMIC. It also serves the School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University. AMIC disseminates information on communication through its bimonthly newsletter, Asian Mass Communication Bulletin (AMCB), the quarterly magazine Media Asia, the biannual Asian Journal of Communication (AJC), monographs and books. It helps to provide a forum for exchange of views and opinions among communication scholars and practitioners in the Asia Pacific region. All publications are jointly released by AMIC and the SCI/NTU. As a research centre, AMIC initiates and organises research projects, training programmes and a research publication. It encourages the development of institutional capabilities to conduct appropriate research programmes through networking, exchange of research fellows and joint research activities. It enhances the capabilities and resources of communication research institutions in the region. AMIC supports the human and material resource needs of institutions in the Asia-Pacific. It organises workshops, seminars, conferences and other meetings to discuss communication issues and upgrade skills. In addition, AMIC also co-ordinates consultancy activities aimed at helping institutions to develop their capabilities and resources.
