The National Committee for Ethnic Minorities in Mountainous Areas is the main vehicle for implementing Vietnamese government policies on ethnic minorities. A cabinet-level committee established in 1993, it is charged with identifying, co-ordinating, implementing and monitoring projects geared toward ethnic minority development in the fields of economics, agriculture and forestry, land, migration, education and health, and the preservation and development of ethnic cultural identity.
