The key arm of provincial government in this south eastern province, which has a total area of 2,719 square kilometres and a population of over 700,000 people (1999), principally Kinh (Việt) but also including Xtiêng (Steang), M’nông (Phnong), Khmer and Chăm ethnicities. In addition to the provincial capital Thủ Dầu Một town, Bình Dương Province incorporates six rural districts (huyện): Thuận An, Tân Uyên, Bến Cát, Dầu Tiếng, Phú Giáo and Dĩ An.
