Established in 1982, the Buddhist Institute offers both undergraduate (Bachelors) and postgraduate (Masters) degree programmes in Buddhist Studies. The Institute currently has an enrolment of 205 undergraduate and 74 postgraduate students. Several graduates of the Institute are now studying overseas and 20 have gone on to receive doctorates in Buddhist Studies. The Institute has two branch institutions, in Ho Chi Minh City and Hue respectively, which offer undergraduate courses in Buddhist Studies. At the time of writing there are plans to rehouse the overcrowded Hà Nội institute in a purpose-built headquarters at Phù Linh in Sóc Sơn District.
