Launched by the Việt Nam Writers’ Association in 2003 and held annually on the day that Uncle Hồ composed the famous poem Rằm Tháng Giêng (Middle of the Lunar Month) in 1947, National Poetry Day aims to promote nationwide awareness of Việt Nam's past literary achievements and to bring poetry closer to the everyday life of ordinary Vietnamese people. The event is held throughout the country in more than 30 localities including Hồ Chí Minh City, Huế, Hải Phòng, Đà Nẵng, Cần Thơ and Bà Rịa-Vũng Tàu. A special opening ceremony is held at the Temple of Literature-Royal College in Hà Nội, following which by poetry recitals and other literary activities are held in various venues.
