Established in 2001, the Việt Nam Archives Association is a social professional organisation which seeks to represent individuals and organisations employed in the Vietnamese archives sector and related branches. The Association’s aims are to bring together members for the purposes of exchange and dissemination of professional knowledge and experience, to enhance professional capacity, and to co-ordinate with other institutions and organisations involved in the archive profession with the aim of contributing to the development of Vietnamese archives and preserving and making effective use of national archives records for the national reconstruction and defence of the Socialist Republic of Việt Nam. The main functions and tasks of the Association include: assembling and uniting members in records management activities; consulting with, making proposals to and advising competent bodies of the Party and State in preparating, amending, supplementing and implementing legislative documents on records management and archival work; providing advice on the preservation and utilisation of archival materials that are not subject to be transferred to the National Archives, as well as private, personal and family archives; conveying the aspirations and expectations of its members to competent bodies; collaborating with other associations, institutions and organisations and individuals both at home and abroad on the basis of equality and mutual respect; and publishing a newsletter, reviews and other professional documents on archival work and records management in accordance with the laws.
