Huế University of Science was originally established as the Huế Polytechnic University by Prime Ministerial Decree 426/TTg of 27 October 1976, from the merger of two former constituent universities of the Huế University Institute (established in 1957). In 1994 it became part of Huế University, changing its name to Huế University of Science.
