Established in 1993 within the new National Archives Centre 3 building, the Centre is a professional unit subordinate to the State Records and Archives Department of Việt Nam. Its function is to receive for repair and restoration the records of national archive centres and various other institutions. Its principal responsibilities include preparing long-term and short-term plans for the restoration, disinfection, fumigation and de-acidification of national archive records; to co-ordinate with organisations and individuals in identifying records and archives in need of conservation measures; to receive materials and undertake the necessary conservation and restoration work, ensuring that works are safeguarded at all times during the process; and to take part in studies and applications of scientific and technological advancement in the conservation and restoration of archives.
