Dau Pagoda (VNAT)
Constructed during the reign of the Mạc kings (1527-1592) on the site of an earlier (probably Lý dynasty) structure, Ðậu (Pháp Vũ) Pagoda is located in Gia Phúc village of Thường Tín District, Hà Tây Province, some 24 kilometres south of Hà Nội. The pagoda houses many precious objects, including stelae, bronze bells and gongs, wooden statues, manuscripts and wooden plates engraved with nôm characters. Of particular note are the mummified bodies of two monks, Vũ Khắc Minh and Vũ Khắc Trường, who died meditating in the mid 17th century. Their bodies underwent extensive restoration by the Institute of Archaeology in 2003.
