 The key arm of provincial government in this north east mountain province, which has a total area of 7,831 square kilometres and a population of just over 600,000 people (1999), principally H'mông and Tày but also from many other ethnic groups including Kinh (Việt), Dao, Nùng and Giấy. In addition to the provincial capital Hà Giang town, Hà Giang Province incorporates nine rural districts (huyện): Vị Xuyên, Bắc Mê, Yên Minh, Quản Ba, Hoàng Su Phì, Xín Mần, Bắc Quang, Đồng Văn and Mèo Vạc.
