Laos was one of the last countries in Asia to establish full Internet connectivity. Unfortunately, since its inception in 1997, progress has been hampered by the shortage of IT professionals, underdeveloped infrastructure, high cost of telecommunications and ongoing delay in the adoption of a Lao Unicode standard for use in electronic communications.
