Located some 30 kilometres outside the city on a picturesque spot by the banks of the Nam Ngum River, this private library was opened in 2004 in honour of the great Lao scholar Maha Sila Viravongs. Initiated by his daughters Douangdeuane Bounyavong and Dara Kalaya, the library contains the private collection of Maha Sila Viravongs, including books and papers written in Lao, Thai, Pali and western languages.Since the library opened it has received numerous donations of old Lao books and it is hoped that it can be developed as a centre of excellence. The Ho Thaen Taeng - Lao Textile Gallery is located nearby.
