Savannakhet Provincial Radio Station was originally established in 1971 under the Colombo Plan for Co-operative Economic Development in Asia and the Pacific, which also upgraded the Vientiane headquarters of the former Royal Lao Radio and funded the establishment of provincial radio stations in Luang Prabang and Champassak Provinces. It broadcasts on 585 kHz AM using a 20Kw TURBO transmitter donated by the USA and on 100.75 MHz using a 1Kw TSD transmitter donated by China.
