Xieng Khouang Provincial Radio and Television Station originated in 1961 as Lao National Radio, a revolutionary station established by the Pathet Lao at Ban Khangkhai in Muang Pek, Xieng Khouang Province. In 1975 it became an integral part of the national radio network and in 2001 the station was completely rebuilt. Today radio is broadcast on 97.5 MHz FM using a 5KW VTC transmitter donated by Việt Nam, while television is broadcast on channel 8 via a 2KW VTC transmitter donated by Việt Nam.
