Established in 1975 under the Provincial Service of Information and Culture, Luang Prabang Provincial Secondary School of Fine Arts is subject to academic supervision by the National Faculty of Fine Arts in Vientiane. It recruits from amongst young people aged 18-25 who have previously completed their general secondary education, offering four-year intermediate or upper secondary level programmes leading a Certificate, with specialisation in either Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art, Ceramics, Metalwork, Traditional Drawing or Lacquerware (currently being revived with assistance from the Myanmar Association Japan). At the time of writing the School has 124 students (including 16 female students) and 18 teaching staff. Each year between three and five gifted graduates of the School are selected for the five-year Diploma in Fine Arts programme offered by the National Faculty of Fine Arts in Vientiane. Some 70% of the remaining graduates find work in traditional craft production. The School incorporates an exhibition gallery:
