Originally established in 1960 by the Pathet Lao, Houaphanh Provincial Radio Station became an integral part of the national radio network in 1975. The station was completely rebuilt in 1995 as a joint radio and television station and today radio is broadcast on 102 MHz FM using a TSD transmitter donated by China, while television is broadcast on channel 8 using a 500W transmitter donated by Việt Nam.
