The Wat Phu Champassak Fund for the Safeguarding of Champassak Heritage was established by UNESCO in 1999 to raise funds to protect and manage the archaeological heritage and living cultural landscape of the Champassak Plain. The Fund supports the efforts of the people and the Government of the Lao PDR in preserving this universally significant heritage site by providing the funds necessary to implement the UNESCO-Lao Champassak Heritage Management Plan. The Wat Phu Fund is seeking contributions from individual and corporate donors in order to help protect this site, which was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List as Wat Phu and Associated Ancient Settlements within the Champassak Cultural Landscape in December 2002. The Fund will finance small-scale projects with large local impact.
