Originally established in 1990 but relaunched in 2003, the Lao Fine Arts Association operates in accordance with Regulation 610/MIC of the Ministry of Information and Culture. It currently has 50 members. The Association aims to promote and develop the fine arts in Laos, to support the rights and enhance the status of visual artists, and to bring together artists both inside the country and overseas. The Association is based at the Ban Anou campus of the National Faculty of Fine Arts in central Vientiane, where it runs two exhibition halls. Members of the Association also operate Mask Gallery, a small commercial outlet on Thanon Luang Prabang in Ban Sihom. The Association enjoys close links with the Việt Nam Fine Art Association and each year the two associations organise an exchange of artists. It also co-operates closely with foreign missions in Vientiane.
