Bergevik Wharf was erected around 1850 and has since seen considerable activity with the salting and spicing of herring and brisling for the export market in the countries bordering the Baltic States. Around the turn of the century mussels and shells were dredged from the bottom of the fjord, treated and laid in salt in barrels. These were used as bait for the Lofoten fisheries. During the local fishing season many fishermen slept in the sea-house and some even lived there permanently. Others from farms located at the other end of the fjord also stayed there when coming to church. Several have their names carved on the walls of the building. Forsand Rural Museum has arranged an exhibition of memorabilia of the herring and brisling fisheries, now a bygone industry of Lysefjord and Høgsfjord.
