Established in 1992, the Centre for Ibsen Studies is a research and documentation centre, the aim of which is to reinforce Ibsen research both nationally and internationally. It moved into its current premises, the observatory villa, in 2003.The organisational structure of the Ibsen centre is inter-disciplinary. The Centre comes under the Faculty of Humanities which also funds the Centre.
The Ibsen Centre Library has the world's largest collection of books and other material related to Ibsen and his works.
The Ibsen Centre is also home to the research project Henrik Ibsen's Writings and works in close co-operation with the website Ibsen.net.
Recent publications at the Ibsen Centre include Ibsen Studies and Ibsen Studies Acta Ibseniana.
The Centre incorporates a meeting room and office facilities for visiting scholars.
