Svalbard Gallery has a number of collections. Svalbard enthusiast Henrik Varming has for years collected maps and books which mention Svalbard and these are all exhibited in the gallery. The Kåre Tveter collection comprises 40 paintings, mainly images of Svalbard. Also included is a picture series called ’arctic light over Svalbard’ in which photographer and musician Thomas Wiederberg captured the light at Svalbard through a year and composed music inspired by his own photos. Finally the museum includes the Recherche Expedition, which consists of 27 lithographic prints.
Alongside the permanent collections, temporary exhibition space is available. Technical details of the gallery are available on request.
The gallery is the home of the Logyearbyen Artists’ Centre (who normally curate incoming temporary exhibitions) and to whom artists may apply for residencies. There are three workshops and flats available for visiting artists.
