BBC Scotland is Scotland's only national public service broadcaster, responsible for a wide range of local programming and services across television, radio and online platforms that properly reflect the diverse nature of Scotland.
BBC Scotland presents the BBC's two public television channels - BBC One Scotland and BBC Two Scotland - and also relays the BBC national radio stations to Scottish listeners. It also broadcasts BBC Radio Scotland (with local news opt-outs from Inverness, Aberdeen, Dumfries and Selkirk, and more extensive programming as community opt-outs from Orkney and Shetland), plus the dedicated Gaelic language radio station BBC Radio nan Gàidheal.
Radio and television programmes are produced for the Scottish market as well as for the network, with international television sales successes including such programmes as Monarch of the Glen and the children's programme Balamory.
Arts output includes The Culture Show, a joint commission with the arts department in London, various film-related strands including Film 2007/8 with Jonathan Ross and The DVD Collection on BBC Four, as well as various individual arts documentaries. For the Scottish sector, BBC Scotland produces the arts strand ArtWorks Scotland, while BBC Radio Scotland carries a weekday Arts Show, as well as a range of weekly specialist music programme covering folk, jazz, classical, country and rock/pop, often showcasing Scottish performers alongside acts from elsewhere. BBC Scotland is also responsible for Gaelic broadcasting delivered by BBC Radio nan Gaidheal, in addition to a range of Gaelic television programming.
A new BBC Scotland headquarters and studios is currently being built at Pacific Quay on the River Clyde, close to STV and the Glasgow Science Centre (GSC).
