Alt-w is an initiative set up to support and promote creative entrepreneurial talent and innovative web-based production by people living in Scotland. The scheme is supported by Scottish Enterprise, Dundee City Council, University of Abertay, Dundee College, School of Television and Imaging at Dundee University, and Scottish Screen.

The fund aims to support and develop Scotland's new media talent at all levels including: individuals (visual artists, designers, film and video makers, audio artists, musicians, games and program developers); Artists' groups, writer/director/producer teams, games and program development teams; Artists wanting to explore the new media field; and Students (provided projects are not part of examination coursework). Production grants of up to £2,500 are available towards the making of new online digital productions and applicants are strongly encouraged to explore experimental and interactive creations. Under certain circumstances, Alt-w partner organisations may provide equipment resources for successful applicants. Specialists from these organisations can also offer a limited level of training and mentoring support.

Applicants must be resident in Scotland and projects can be at any stage of development.
