Shetland College is the most northerly educational establishment in the British Isles. It offers a wide range of courses from SVQ level 2 through to research degrees. Train Shetland, the business arm of the College, offers training, short courses and consultancy and applied research services to businesses. Although a relatively small institution, Shetland College offers a wide range of educational opportunities with over 4,000 students enrolled on full and part-time programmes. Much of its further education includes work-based learning and is taken principally by local students while higher education is offered through UHI's networked learning and many students taught from Shetland College are based right across the Highlands and Islands. Shetland College was one of the original Academic Partners in UHI and as well as higher national and undergraduate degree courses, students can also study for taught postgraduate qualifications and for research degrees. Shetland College offers one-year DipHE and three-year BA programmes in Contemporary Textiles.
