Launched in 2004, Scotland’s National Festival of Youth Theatre is an annual event which celebrates the invigorating, relevant, and vibrant work created by young performers in Scotland today.
Over 8,000 young people from diverse backgrounds are engaged in youth theatre each week throughout Scotland. Youth theatre is a ‘power’ in its own right, supported and respected by the national theatre community.
The fast-paced three days offer opportunities to participate in, as well as see productions., which are held both indoors and out. The festival is open to anyone aged 13 or over, from a youth theatre or drama group, whatever their experience of theatre. Participants are offered the chance to participate in workshops, as well as to collaborate with international artists, There is a resulting grand finale performance of a brand new piece of work.
The fact that so many key artistic and creative partners join with Promote YT annually in producing this high profile national event is a tribute, not only to the outstanding work being created by the young people of Scotland, but also to the value of nurturing the theatre performers and audiences of tomorrow.
