East Dunbartonshire Archives was set up in 1996, following local government reorganisation, to fulfil the Council's obligations in terms of care of records under sections 53 and 54 of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994. Records were inherited from the former Bearsden and Milngavie District Council, Strathkelvin District Council, and Strathclyde Regional Council.East Dunbartonshire Archives exists to collect, preserve and make available to the public the records of East Dunbartonshire. Its holdings date back to the 15th century, and include documents, photographs, maps, plans, and audio-visual material.
Records relating to areas other than Bearsden and Milngavie are held at William Patrick Library, while records relating to Bearsden and Milngavie are held at Brookwood Library, Bearsden.
