Highland Libraries provides an extensive network of public libraries throughout the Highland region plus mobile library services to remoter areas of Highland. The libraries through the People’s Network also provide access to the Internet for the public
Anyone joining a Highland Library becomes a member for the entire Highland Council area and can borrow books from any Highland Library. An online catalogue is available 24/7 to library members .
Every community library (except Knoydart) has at least one computer, with colour print and scanning facilities, offering free public access to the Internet and to online reference sources equivalent to a large city reference library. It is also possible to access materials which will help you to work towards the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualification and other distance learning courses.
Highland Libraries aims to provide access to all aspects of Gaelic in its printed and recorded form through its branches; Gaelic language learning courses are also available, many with accompanying audio and video cassettes.
Highland Libraries is also responsible for the Highland Council Archive and for the Highland Council’s award-winning bi-lingual heritage and culture website Am Baile.
