The University of Stirling Library houses a number of Special Collections of rare books and manuscripts which are shelved in areas normally closed to readers. These cover the following subject areas:
Scottish literature and theatre - including Sir Walter Scott, James Hogg, Norman MacCaig, Helen B Cruickshank, Macleod Theatre Collection
Early left wing politics - the Tait and Watson collections
Publishing - including chapbooks, Victorian illustrated books, Penguin Books, Charles Dickens, Eneas Mackay, Drummond Tracts
Film and media - including the papers of Lindsay Anderson, John Grierson, Alastair Hetherington, Sam Black
Aquaculture - Howietoun Fishery Archive
The Napoleonic Collection
Airthrey Estate Papers and University Archive
Leighton Library - the personal library of Archbishop Robert Leighton (1611-1684)
Linguistics - the Horden collection
