Taking the Scots word for the Scots langauge as its title, Lallans is a bi-annual A5 magazine publishing original poetry and prose in Scots, the latter taking in cultural journalism and book reviews as well as fiction. Founded in the early 1970s, it has a current readership of around 1000. Content includes both commissioned and unsolicited work, with occasional translations into Scots of international material, as in a recent special feature incorporating translations from a number of Swiss poets, working in each of the languages of Switzerland. Unsolicited work in Scots is welcomed.
