The Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus evolved from a choir formed in 1843 to sing the first full performance of Handel's Messiah in Scotland in April 1844.
Now recognised as one of the most distinguished large symphonic choruses in Britain, its prime function is to perform with the RSNO during its Season and Prom series in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee. Timothy Dean has been RSNO Chorus Director since November 2006.
