The Aberdeen and North East Scotland Family History Society exists to assist and promote the study of genealogy and family history based on the North East corner of Scotland, an area which covers the old counties of Aberdeenshire, Banffshire, Kincardineshire and Morayshire.
Its Research Centre was opened in 1987 and was the first of its kind in the country. Available for members' use only, the Centre is the hub of the Society's activities, staffed by volunteer members who are delighted to assist users trace their family tree and tell them how to go about it. Facilities include a large library, microfilm and microfiche of the IGI (the whole world), OPR's and census records for a wide area. Research assistance into North East Scotland ancestry can be carried out for out-of-area members by Society volunteers, at a nominal charge plus expenses (such as Registrar's fees, postage, phocopies etc).
In addition to the Society's own series of publications, a comprehensive range of publications is stocked, including those of other Scottish Societies and the Federation of Family History Societies.
