EUP logoEdinburgh University Press is a forward-looking, independent university press and the premier Scottish publisher of academic books and journals.
Founded over 50 years ago, the Press became a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Edinburgh in 1992. Books and journals published by the Press bear the imprimatur of one of Britain's oldest and most distinguished centres of learning and enjoy the highest academic standards through the scholarly appraisal of the Press Committee. The Press has a reputation for publishing books and journals of an enviably high quality – in content and production – in the humanities and social sciences. In 2004 the Press acquired Charitable Status, charity number SC 035813.
Edinburgh University Press is committed to furthering knowledge and making innovative and rigorous scholarship available to the widest possible readership through its wide range of research publications, including materials which are available online. The Press also plays a prominent role in the development of education by providing stimulating, well-designed textbooks for students and their teachers. Seeking excellence in its chosen subjects, the Press aims to strike a balance between imaginative flair, scholarly rigour, and commercial reality, to produce academic books of the highest quality.
Scotland has a long tradition of furthering learning and intellectual debate and promoting awareness of new ideas. Edinburgh University Press is part of that heritage and as well as being a leading UK academic publisher it aims to be the pre-eminent publisher of serious books about Scotland.
The Press is proud of its close working relationships with authors, journal editors and suppliers. It offers close personal attention from the commissioning stage through to cover design, publication and beyond, and believes that a sympathetic and flexible approach can complement high professional standards in manuscript preparation, book design and marketing.
It aims to make the process of book and journal publishing pleasurable, supported by enthusiastic and professional staff.
Edinburgh University Press publications are available world-wide through its network of agents and sales representatives. In North America and Canada it co-publishes most of its titles with an appropriate publisher or distributes them through its partners, Columbia University Press.
