This section is a database of contacts in 57 municipalities with 10,000 inhabitants and more, plus some smaller towns in which significant cultural venues or organisations are located. Links to cultural organisations located in individual municipalities are presented by category, eg Archives, Cultural centres, Galleries, Festivals, Libraries, Museums, Performing arts venues, Performing arts promoters, Publishers, Municipal government, etc.The 205 municipalities of Slovenia (of which 11 have urban status) have been grouped into the following 12 statistical regions:
Central Slovenia region, including the capital city of Ljubljana;
Coast-Kras region;
Gorenjska (Upper Carniola) region;
Goriška region to the west;
Koroška (Carinthia) region to the north (along Slovene border with Austria);
Notranjsko-kraška (Inner Carniola-Kras) region;
Podravje (Drava River) region;
Pomurje (Mura River) region in the eastern part of the country (Slovene border with Hungary);
Savinjska (Savinja River) region;
South East Slovenia region to the south (Slovene border with Croatia);
Spodnje Posavje (Lower Sava River) region to the south (Slovene border with Croatia);
Zasavje (Sava River) region.
Slovenia is bordered to the west by Italy's Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. In the south west it is adjacent to the Italian port city of Trieste and occupies a portion of the Istrian Peninsula, where it has a short coastline along the Gulf of Venice. In the south, south east, and east, Slovenia shares a long border with Croatia, and in the far north east it borders Hungary. The northern boundary separates it from the Austrian regions of Burgenland, Styria (Steiermark), and Carinthia (Kaernten).
