Kosovelov dom was established in 1991 as a municipal public non-profit institution, a cultural centre for the Kras Region. Located in the centre of Sežana, it is known locally as 'the city within the city', having its own square, street and park as well as many spaces for performing and visual arts and film. The cinema is a member of the Artkino mreža (Art Cinema Network), which distributes selected high-quality films around Slovenia. In addition to its regular theatre, music and film programme, the venue hosts several annual cultural events, for instance the Vilenica International Writers’ Gathering. Kosovelov dom also co-operates with several other Slovene institutions, including theatre houses, regional cultural centres and non-governmental organisations, on projects such as the sculpture project Metamorfoze.
The hall has 457 seats and a large stage with good acoustics fully equipped for cinema screenings. The venue also incorporates two gallery spaces (300 square metres and 70 square metres) and various lobby spaces for exhibitions. The outdoor amphitheatre can accommodate up to 2,000 visitors. |
