Kunduz Province is located in northern Afghanistan bordering Tajikistan, with a population of 1,435,620 and an area of 2,876 square miles. Cotton has been grown here since the time of Genghis Khan and became a large export crop to the Soviet Union in the 1930s. Buzkashi, the national sport, is very popular here.
