The Journalists’ Union of Afghanistan was originally initiated during the time of Soviet influence, when the first unions appeared, and has recently been revived with the assistance of the NGO Article 19. It co-ordinates the activities of journalists and organises seminars. It seeks to raise awareness of media issues and advocate for press freedom.
