Surkh Kotal (Ana Rodriguez)
Pul e Khomri, is a temple from the Khushan period (c 130 CE) which was excavated by the Délégation archéologique Française en Afghanistan (DAFA) during the 1950s. An inscribed tablet found here is located in the foyer of the National Museum in Kabul, but the statue of Kanishka from the site was smashed by the Taliban and is now being pieced together again by the conservationists in the museum. During the wars of the 1990s soldiers used the site on the top of the hill and their trenches can still be seen. During their free time they dug tunnels in search of objects to sell and much of the staircase and columns have disappeared.
