The Journalism Faculty of the University offers four-year degree programmes in Journalism. Training courses are needed to upgrade the skills of the teachers who have worked under successive regimes that suppressed the media for 23 years. English language courses have been requested in order for the teachers and students to access information from abroad through the Internet. UNESCO has responded to this need, sending eight senior lecturing staff overseas for one months intensive skills-upgrading and, in their absence, rehabilitating the Faculty offices and installing a library and INFOYOUTH Computer Centre. This will soon be supplied with a satellite Internet connection, the first of its kind at any university in Afghanistan.
