ACTED seeks to protect, restore and highlight Afghanistan’s cultural heritage in co-operation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) and the Afghan Institute of Archaeology. Its support takes the form of material and logistic support, as well as the training of staff. It has made an inventory of vestiges in the eastern part of former Bactria, specifically Ai Khanoum, and is hoping to support the Afghan archaeological authorities in their task to assess the condition of the cultural heritage throughout the country. It is undertaking restoration projects in the north of the country, offers support to publications, the tile workshop and plans to run a cultural centre in Mazar.
