JICA offers assistance to Afghanistan, making use of the experience that it gained in providing assistance to East Timor for infrastructure restoration in 1999. It provides assistance in the fields of health and medical care, education, assistance for women and gender-related assistance, and media infrastructure. JICA provided emergency assistance materials such as tents and blankets to Baghlan Province after the earthquakes in March 2002. In the media field JICA provided assistance in the nation-wide broadcasting of the ‘Emergency Loya Jirgah (National Assembly)’ held in June 2002. It also offers technical training in Japan, accepting two persons from Radio-Television Afghanistan as trainees in July 2002. JICA is reconstructing the southwest part of Kabul, the heavily damaged area near the National Museum.
